what a great way to start a day (:
the last 3 weeks werent exactly the best weeks of my life, but its a new experience. you dont get proper facilities; just imagine shitting into a hole deep down undergound (u dont know whats down there, and u definitely dont wanna slip and fall into it), filling pails of water to fill your water bag so that u can have a quick shower (u hope that there is still hot water left for its damn cold at night) and fighting the occasional sandstorms when the wind gets a little too strong (i have no idea how much sand i've inhaled). the only thing one looks forward to is the occasional canteen break (the canteen is 2 kilometres away) when you get ripped off willingly by the locals who set up a shop there. a hotdog bun and choc milk for SGD 9, anyone?
the town of Rockhampton is like another Bukit Batok/Woodlands/Tampines, aiyah, its a small place lah. just imagine yourself stuck in Bukit Batok for the rest of your life, u have everything u need i.e. ONE university, ONE cinema, TWO established shopping centres, but nothing more than that. Brisbane, say our Orchard, probably the nearest city, is 780km away. i guess they're way of life is very different from Singaporeans.
yuliang and i explored half the town while everyone else cooped themselves up in the shopping centre. 'lets do without the map and get lost, its fun', unfortunately this never became an issue cause the area is so small and the roads are so clear cut, u're a faggot if u still lose your way. the only few interesting things we found are the adult toy shop and a house that reared horses in the backyard. apart from that, we were complaining about the lack of things to see and the sweltering weather. haha.
what else can we do? shopping. as typical singaporeans, we only get the best of the best deals. the clothes are so cheap, you feel sorry not buying them. the locals must be elated to see us, 1.i dont suppose they have tourists, so we army guys helped contribute to their economy 2.we helped them clear stock, especially those clothes of small sizes (angmohs usually cant fit in them). in this shopping centre, they have 4 hypermarts and they sell everything, really. i love 'em all, especially the candies section, its like paradise. hahah. plus the cashiers are friendly and polite! unlike typical NTUC cashiers who only says 'Member?', the aussie cashiers engage with you slightly more.
the only regret is that i didnt bring my camera. if not i couldve shown u my living conditions, as well as the little bit of the town.
all in all, i'm happy to be back home! :D
